Carl “Toby” Rains, 78, a loving and spirited soul, passed away on September 6, 2025. Born on May 1, 1947, Carl lived a vibrant and fulfilling life in Williamsburg, KY.
Carl was a beacon of love and passion, whose joy was found in the twinkle in his grandchildren’s eyes. He was known for his saying, “They Kingdom come they will be done,” a testament to his faith and devotion. He is proceeded in death by parents, Charlie Rains and Illa Rains; wife of over 55 years, Ella Rains; four brothers, Tommy Rains and wife Barb, James Rains, Charles Rains, Skeeter Rains; and sister, Georgia Sawyers and husband Ray.
Carl was widowed, yet he found strength and solace in his family, particularly his grandchildren. His bond with them was unyielding and pure, he was always eager to share his wisdom while also learning from their youthful insights.
Carl leaves behind a legacy of love and honor. He is survived by his daughter, Annetta Lewis and husband Danny of Rockholds, KY; and son, Allen Rains and wife Shawnda of Corbin, KY.
The light of his life shone through his grandchildren, Kristen Gentry and husband Jesse and Summer Howard and husband Nathan; and his great-grandchild, Alivia Hembree. Each of them carries a piece of Carl’s spirited heart within them.
He is survived by three brothers, Billy Rains of Williamsburg, KY, Earl Rains of Williamsburg, KY, and Donnie “Moose” Rains and wife Freda of Williamsburg, KY; one sister, Ella Mullis and husband David of Williamsburg, KY; three sisters-in-law, Darlene Sears of Williamsburg, KY, Virginia Rains of OH and Carolyn Rains of Williamsburg, KY; several nieces, nephews; and a host of other family and friends to mourn his passing.
Visitation for Carl will be held at Croley Funeral Home, located at 103 South 2nd Street, Williamsburg, KY, on Thursday, September 11, beginning at 6:00 pm.
Funeral services will commence on Friday, September 12, at 1:00 pm at the Croley Funeral Home with Rev. Curtis Vanover officiating.
Following the service, Carl will be laid to rest in the Rains family section of Siler Cemetery in Williamsburg, KY.
