Three people were arrested Monday at a Woodbine residence after police received a complaint of a fight in progress with gunshots fired.
According to a press release from the Knox County Sheriff’s Department, Deputy Mikey Ashurst responded to the complaint on Pay Lake Road.
Arrested were:
Robert R Anderson age 32 of Williamsburg, on a Whitley County Bench Warrant for failure to pay fines on no registration plates and no insurance charges. While being processed at the Knox County Detention Center, plastic baggies containing suspected crystal meth and marijuana where found concealed on his person. A Corbin man was arrested last week for allegedly threatening a female jogger on Master Street.
According to police, Knox County Sheriff’s Deputy Mikey Ashurst received a cell phone call from a “hysterical female” jogging on Master Street in Corbin. She told Ashurst that a man was following her and “screaming vulgar slurs at her.”
The man also allegedly said he was going to kill her and “blow up the police.”
While Ashurst was on the phone with the woman, the man began chasing her. A passing motorist witnessed the incident and stopped to allow the woman to get inside their vehicle.

A Corbin man charged Saturday night in connection with a 2015 double homicide in Lily pleaded not guilty to murder and robbery charges Monday in Laurel District Court.
Thirty-four-year-old Bradley Justin Lawson is charged with shooting and killing 62-year-old Donnie and 58-year-old Sharon Jackson at their home on Slate Ridge Road on March 8, 2015.
Lawson remains in the Laurel County Detention Center on a $500,000 cash bond. Lawson is scheduled to return to court Tuesday for a preliminary hearing to determine whether there is probable cause to present the case to a grand jury.

A Woodbine couple has been charged with methamphetamine related charges after items associated with meth production were discovered in a tent Thursday morning in the Faber community.
Whitley County Sheriff's Sgt. Jeff Anderson responded Barton Hollow Road after receiving information that methamphetamine was allegedly being manufactured in a tent.
When Anderson arrived at the scene he located items associated with meth production or meth precursors, but nobody was in or around the tent, according to a sheriff's department release.
Whitley County E911 advised deputies that Whitley County EMS had recently transported a woman from that location after she had given birth, the release noted.

A downtown Corbin park dedicated to Kentucky Fried Chicken founder Colonel Harland Sanders is being highlighted by the Kentucky Department of Travel and Tourism as one of 99 places in Kentucky tourists should visit.
The effort, called “99 days of summer” is an interactive calendar on the Department of Travel and Tourism’s website (www.kentuckytourism.com) that provides travel suggestions within the state. Sanders Park is on that list.

Out of the seven applicants for the Williamsburg Independent School Principal position education veteran Tim Melton was the consensus choice by the interview committee for the job.
During a press conference Tuesday morning in the school lobby, which was attended by about two-dozen people, including faculty, staff, board of education members, parents and students, Melton was introduced as the new principal.

A London man was pronounced dead at the scene after he was thrown from a motorcycle that struck a pickup truck in Keavy Monday night.
According to Laurel County Sheriff John Root, the victim was 22-year-old Shawn H. Couch.
The wreck occurred about 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of Ky. 312 and Ky. 363 near the Keavy Grocery.
Neither the driver of the pickup truck, identified as 37-year-old Jess Boswell, nor the passenger, 35-year-old Tiffany Boswell, was injured.
Deputies determined that the collision occurred as the pickup truck turned left into the path of the oncoming motorcycle.

After 11 years of waiting, Corbin city officials decided Friday that the city can wait no longer to somehow reach an agreement with Knox County to divide occupational tax revenue.
Under the terms of a resolution the commission approved during a special called meeting Friday, Corbin will begin collecting its own occupational tax from individuals working within the Knox County portion of the city beginning July 1.
“Corbin has got to take care of Corbin,” said City Manager Marlon Sams when asked why now.
Commissioner Freddy “Bruce” Hodge said the city had to find additional revenue.
“We’re broke,” Hodge said.
“We are just hurting and everybody knows it.”

Following an investigation into a double shooting Thursday in Keavy, Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies have charged a London man with two counts of criminal attempt to commit murder.
Twenty-eight-year-old Landon Collins, who had admitted to deputies to firing the shots that injured the two men, was arrested Thursday afternoon.
