Williamsburg police recover stolen vehicle

Williamsburg police recently recovered a stolen vehicle and arrested a Tennessee man, who allegedly had been driving it. Daniel Hatfield, 32, of Newcomb, pleaded not guilty Thursday during his arraignment Thursday in Whitley District Court to charges of receiving stolen property and possession of drug paraphernalia. Williamsburg Police Officer Elijah Hunter arrested Hatfield about 5:03 p.m. on May 24 at Walmart in Williamsburg. Hunter received a complaint from Whitley County E-911 that a 1992 blue Chevy car was at the Williamsburg Walmart and had been reported stolen out of Campbell County, Tennessee. Corbin woman facing drug possession charges

A Corbin woman is facing drug possession charges after police found suspected meth in her vehicle, and a pill in her mouth after she got to jail, according to court documents. Rachel Lee Adams, 39, of Jasper Jamboree Road, pleaded not guilty during her arraignment Monday morning to charges of first-degree possession of a controlled substance-meth, third-degree possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, driving on a DUI suspended license, failure to produce vehicle insurance card, possession of drug paraphernalia and second-degree promoting contraband. Corbin Rotary Club hosting bicycle rodeo at NIBROC

The Corbin Rotary Club will be hosting a Bicycle Rodeo from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 11 at the NIBROC Festival. Rotarians will be working the rodeo along with Mike Hale, owner of Mike’s Bike and Hike. Hale will be offering bicycle safety lessons to children. He will teach them turning signals and other safety rules. Rotarians will also help children get helmets fitted. Helmets will be given away, but there is a limited quantity; Baptist Health Corbin donated the helmets. The Bicycle Rodeo will also feature a riding course that children are encouraged to try. Three charged with giving minors cocaine

Three men were arrested on charges that they gave alcohol and cocaine to two underage girls at a Corbin area hotel. Michael Isaiah Jaramillo, 20, Daniel Edward Olivarez, 25, and Alberto Adlay Quintanilla-Lara, 20 allegedly witnessed and participated in the consumption of the drugs with the two girls. The girls told the men that they were 18 and 19-years-old, but were actually only 15 and 16-years-old. The 16-year-old claimed that she told Jaramillo her actual age later on. All three men are facing charges of first-degree unlawful transaction with a minor under 16 and first-degree unlawful transaction with a minor under 18. Testimony heard in case of brutal attack with broom handle

A preliminary hearing was held for a woman accused of second-degree assault on Tuesday in Whitley District Court. Holly A. Mills, formerly Pennington, 34, of Corbin, was found to have probable cause to proceed to a grand jury. Mills allegedly attacked Danny Perry on July 8 and Perry reported the incident on July 9. Danny Perry obtained a warrant for the arrest of Holly Mills because she inflicted serious physical injury. Some of the injuries reported to police included multiple lacerations, broken ribs and a brain bleed that caused Perry to be flown to the University of Kentucky for treatment, according to the testimony given by Trooper David Lassiter during the hearing,...

Closing of Eighth Street approved

The Corbin City Commission has taken the final step to close the portion of Eight Street between Poplar and Kentucky Ave. At a special called meeting Thursday morning, the commissioners approved the second reading of the ordinance authoring the closure of the street between the former Corbin Middle School building and Edwards Gym. With the middle school moving to the new building on the former St. Camillus Academy property, Corbin Independent Schools has begun working on plans to renovate the building to serve as the new home for fourth and fifth grades beginning in the 2019-20 school year. Police say a Woodbine woman had a gun and drugs in her bra when she allegedly ran from police Sunday. Williamsburg Police Officer Greg Rhoades charged Lisa Gail Johnson, 41, of Dowis Chapel Road, with 11 offenses, including: first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance-meth, two counts of third-degree possession of a controlled substance, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of drug paraphernalia, giving an officer false identifying information, second-degree fleeing or evading police and other related offenses. Corbin Police add six Dodge Durangos to fleet

The Corbin Police Department has added two new vehicles to its fleet as the first of six Dodge Durango SUVs have arrived. Officers had the new vehicles, which replaced two of its Dodge Chargers, on the road Monday. Chief Rusty Hedrick said while the department has filled out its fleet with Dodge Chargers, some of them have exceeded 150,000 miles. “Mileage and idle time is so much more than a standard civilian vehicle,” Hedrick pointed out. The new vehicles come fully equipped with the exception of radios and radar. The radios and radar will be removed from the old cruisers for use in the new vehicles. A vehicle accident early Friday evening led to the arrest of a Williamsburg man, who is a wanted fugitive from the state of Georgia. Dustin M. Oyer, 34, of Sawmill Hollow Road, agreed to waive extradition to Georgia during his arraignment Monday morning in Whitley District Court. About 6:51 p.m. Friday, Williamsburg Police Sgt. Brandon White and Officer Trevor Teague responded to a vehicle collision at the intersection of Main Street and Brush Arbor Road. Truck hits Edward Jones building during two-vehicle crash Wednesday

A two-vehicle wreck on Main Street in Corbin Wednesday morning resulted in the Edward Jones building being struck. The accident happened shortly before 10 a.m. at the intersection of Main Street and Roy Kidd Avenue. Corbin Police Lt. Coy Wilson said that Dora Smith-Epperson, who is in her early 60s, was driving a Chevy Malibu on Roy Kidd Avenue when she struck a Chevy Silverado truck, which was driven by Aaron Nelson, 23, in the side as it drove up Main Street.
