Whitley County hosted a boys-girls double header against Corbin, while the Williamsburg Yellow Jackets went on the road to face Bell County... In game one of the double header at Whitley County High School, the Corbin Lady Hounds improved to 8-3 on the year with a 72-69 overtime victory against the Lady Colonels. The Lady Hounds will travel to Bell County Thursday to play McCreary Central in round one of this year's 2A sectional tournament (see this week's print edition for more details). Results from final night of 2019 Cumberland Falls Invitational

The Williamsburg Yellow Jackets avoided an 0-3 record while the host Corbin Redhounds ended this year's CFIT on a disappointing note Monday. Three games capped off this year's Cumberland Falls Invitational Tournament at Corbin High School Monday, beginning with the Williamsburg Yellow Jackets taking on Broome, SC. The Jackets were victorious, 63-49, giving them an overall record of one win and two losses at this year's CFIT. In game two Monday, the Corbin Redhounds fell to the Knoxville Catholic Fighting Irish, 83-53. The victory gave the Irish a third place finish in the tournament. Matchups, start times set for final day of 2019 CFIT

After a pair of exciting games Sunday afternoon, the final day of competition is set for the 2019 Cumberland Falls Invitational Tournament at Corbin High School. At 5:30 p.m. on Monday, December 30, the Williamsburg Yellow Jackets will take on Broome, SC in the 3rd place versus 3rd place game. The Jackets ended pool play in third place after  a 73-35 loss to Clay County on Friday, and a 74-70 loss to Clay County on Saturday. Broome lost 73-38 to Corbin, and 88-25 to John Hardin to also finish pool play in third place. Talented, exciting field of teams to be featured in this year’s CFIT

Each winter the Cumberland Falls Invitational Tournament caps off the old year, and sends us into the new with plenty of great memories. That should definitely be the case again in 2019, as the Corbin Redhounds are welcoming in what could be one of the most overall talented field of teams in the history of the event. The following are results for boys and girls high school basketball games played on the night of Tuesday, December 17.... The Corbin Redhounds traveled to London Tuesday to take on the South Laurel Cardinals in a 50th District rival showdown. The Hounds were not able to pick up what would've been their fifth win in a row, falling to the Cards by the final score of 74-61. Some important games took place in boys and girls high school basketball Tuesday night. The Corbin Redhounds traveled to Middlesboro, improving to 2-1 on the year with a 55-44 win over the Yellow Jackets. The victory was Tony Pietrowski's 400th as head coach of the Hounds. Next up for Corbin will be a home game this Friday evening against 50th District rivals Williamsburg. Tipoff time is set for 6:00 p.m. In other boys basketball action Tuesday, the Whitley County Colonels fell to visiting South Laurel 72-61, dropping them to 1-3 on the year. Tues. Night Highlights: High School basketball results for Dec. 3, 2019

All but one coverage area team was in action on this first Tuesday night of the 2019-2020 high school basketball season. The Williamsburg boys had no trouble against visiting Cumberland Homeschool, winning 86-33 to start the year out at 1-0. A few miles down the road, the Lynn Camp Wildcats were also victorious in their season opener, winning 77-75 at Jellico, TN. Back in Williamsburg, the Whitley County Colonels started their season off right, defeating visiting Model, 97-88. Meanwhile, the Corbin Redhounds faced a tough test in their opener, going on the road and falling to Clay County, 91-74. Williamsburg’s Lillie Hall signs with Cumberlands for basketball

It was an important day for Williamsburg Lady Jacket Lillie Hall for a couple of different reasons. First, it's her birthday. Second, she just signed on to become the newest member of the University of the Cumberlands women's basketball team. "Last year she ended the season First Team All-Region," said Lady Jackets head coach Randy Crider of Hall at her signing. "She was the first player here to do that in quite a few years.
