It’s been a big week for student-athletes at Corbin High School. First came the news that Lady Hound basketball and soccer player Kami Garland had achieved a perfect score on her ACT (story available now online and in print), and now we have learned that Lady Hound bowler Taylor Petrey has received Midway University/KHSAA Student-Athlete of the Year honors. Longtime Lady Cats basketball coach Richard Jones passes away Wednesday

The Lynn Camp community is mourning the loss of longtime coach and teacher Richard Jones today. Jones, affectionately called "Birddog" by many of his friends and acquaintances, had served as a coach and educator at Lynn Camp Schools for many years, but was most well-known as the face of the LCHS Lady Cats basketball program. Under his guidance, the Lady Cats became district champions and represented their school in 13th Region tournament competition. Corbin Superintendent issues statement on postgame brawl at Class 3A Championship Game

It has been widely reported since Friday evening that a brawl between Corbin and Louisville Central players broke out after the conclusion of the Class 3A state football championship game at Kroger Field in Lexington. In a statement submitted via e-mail Monday morning, KHSAA Communications Director Joe Angolia said, "It is unfortunate that this situation marred an otherwise great game. We will review all available accounts including all actions taken by players, and all actions taken and not taken by other school representatives, and make any determinations following the conclusion of the playoffs." Whitley County announces Athletic HOF Class of 2018

The second class of Whitley County High School’s Athletic Hall of Fame is a strong one. The Hall of Fame committee voted earlier this year to induct the maximum of five into the Hall. Committee chairperson and Whitley County School Superintendent John Siler said, “We had many deserving nominees and are excited about the five being honored.” “We are delighted that we can continue to recognize those that have made significant contributions to our athletic history. Stivers Aquatic Center may reopen by end of May

The Stivers Aquatic and Wellness Center Board met May 9 to tie up some loose ends and give an update on repairs. Steve Hoskins with Union College announced that, while the date is by no means concrete, the college’s goal is to reopen the center by the end of May. “Our goal is by late this month,” said Hoskins, who confirmed that an exact date has not been set and an end of May reopening is tentative as of now.
