Corbin cross country is a program on the rise. Although competitive over the last several years with many state qualifiers and strong region performances, they have yet to assert themselves as a consistent force at the region and state level. When Williamsburg sophomore Selena Mattingly entered into the spring 2017 season, she carried with her a lot of heavy expectations. After becoming a state champion in both the 800-meter and 1600-meter runs in 2016, all eyes were on her to once again accomplish big things on the track this year. We’re still a few weeks away from the spring sports season kicking off, but Lynn Camp track and field coaches Allen Harris and Lauren McMillan are eager to find out what their teams are going to look like when that time comes. In their second year of coaching track at LCHS, Harris and McMillan are hoping to see an overall increase in participation this spring. Senior Spotlight: Cross Country 2016

This past weekend the 2016 cross country season kicked off with the Catbird Classic at North Laurel High School. Prior to the start of the meet, our coverage area runners took a few moments to give their thoughts for this week’s Senior Spotlight. Brooklyn Lawson has been running at Whitley County for the past three years. Selena Mattingly preparing to defend Class A state title

Williamsburg Lady Jacket Selena Mattingly has already established herself as one of the top high school runners in the entire state of Kentucky, winning a Class A cross country title and two state track titles as a freshman last school year. Now, as a sophomore, Mattingly is preparing to defend her championships against a competitive field of athletes. She will begin that quest later this month when the 2016 cross country season gets underway.
