Charles was a very special person and made the best decision of his life over 40 years ago when he accepted the Lord while (Buddy) Carl Hickman was preaching one Sunday spring morning at Patterson Creek Missionary Baptist Church. He loved the Lord and his church family. He was blessed by the Lord. He always had his wife, children and grandchildren with him in church every Sunday.
Charles was a person who loved life. He had many friends who enjoyed his sense of humor, work ethic and zest for life. If he liked you he pestered you. He had rather pester someone than eat when he was hungry. He loved his grandkids. He always wanted to see them, ride them on the tractor, pretend to bite their toes, teach them to moo like a cow and they adored their papaw. He enjoyed camping and having all the kids and family there sitting around the fire talking. He loved to camp with his cousins, Renea and Donnie Wilson and kids.
Charles loved going to Bluegrass Festivals, listening to the music and pretend to be one of the Moron Brothers. He loved to work. He had so many friends from when he worked on strip jobs. He ran a loader, dozer and drove a coal truck while making friends everywhere he went. He loved pulling jokes on his co-workers, greasing steering wheels and door handles, anything to make anyone laugh. He couldn’t take a serious picture because he had to pester everyone. Everyone loved him. He told his wife she would probably have to hire pallbearers until he was diagnosed with cancer then he said he didn’t realize how many friends he had until he saw all the prayers going up.
He was amazed how good Baptist Health at Corbin treated him. He especially loved 3rd Floor North. He loved thinking that he was pestering them. The nurses would say “Do you need anything” and he would reply “A pocket full of money” just to hear their replies. The oncology department was so kind to him and Dr. Byrnes treated him like family.
The Lord has been so good to us even in this time of sadness. Please keep us in your prayers. There will never be another Charles.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, September 1, 2024 at the Ellison Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerome Cox and Rev. Bill Wilder officiating. Interment will be at Wilson Cemetery at Verne.
