A child welfare check Tuesday night in north Corbin ended with the mother being arrested.
Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies charged Janet R. Gehret, 36, of Corbin with second-degree wanton endangerment, endangering the welfare of a minor and public intoxication – controlled substances.
Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, the department’s public affairs officer, said that deputies were called to the residence on American Greeting Card Road at approximate 9:30 p.m. in response to a complaint of a small child in the custody of a woman allegedly under the influence.
“Upon arrival at the scene deputies conducted an investigation and determined that the mother of the one-year-old child there was under the influence,” Acciardo stated. “Through investigation deputies learned that the child had almost fell down a flight of seven stairs earlier.”
A second individual at the residence, Randy L. Masur, 43, of Corbin, was also arrested.
Acciardo said deputies learned that Masur was Gehret’s boyfriend.
He was also determined to be under the influence and had two outstanding warrants.
Masur was charged with public intoxication – controlled substance.
The warrants charged Masure with failure to appear in Laurel District Court on charges of operating on a suspended or revoked operator’s license and public intoxication – controlled substance.
