On Friday, Feb. 6 and Feb. 13, the carriage rides will be from 6-8 p.m. On Saturday, Feb. 7 and Feb. 14, the carriage rides will be from 2-5 p.m.
“We are doing this to emphasize our shop local again,” Mayor Roddy Harrison told the Williamsburg City Council during its regular monthly meeting Monday.
In other business, the council:
• Authorized Harrison to have discussions with Calvary Missionary Baptist Church about donating a 1.5-acre tract of land to the church. It is located directly in front of the church.
The 1.5 acres was part of a 7.0-acre tract that the city put together several years ago as part of an incentive package for a proposed Firestone expansion that went in a different spot.
In October, the city council agreed to give about five acres of that land to IMI Real Estate LLC in exchange for the company opening a concrete plant there and operating it for at least 10 years.
Officials said that the remaining land isn’t of much use to anyone besides the church and would square up their property.
“There is really no need for us to have it,” Harrison added.
• Announced that city hall will be closed on Monday, Jan. 19, in recognition of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
• Announced an upcoming sale on season passes for the Kentucky Splash waterpark, which will take place Feb. 9 – 13. Season passes will be available for $85 each. Children three years old and under are admitted for free.
• Councilman Richard Foley complimented the Williamsburg Housing Authority, which recently scored a 96 on a major inspection, which was two points higher than the prior inspection three years ago. “They are doing a fantastic job. I bet there aren’t many around the state that get this,” Foley added.
