Corbin Academic Team wins 49th District tournament

The Corbin High School Academic team was named the winners on Saturday at the 49th District High School Governor’s Cup tournament hosted by Lynn Camp.

The students’ combined written assessment and team quick recall scores resulted in Corbin bringing home the overall winner award.

The Corbin Quick Recall team placed first, and the school’s Future Problem Solvers team also won first place.

Individual written assessment placements included:

Math

1st – Tyler Clifton

2nd – Joaquin Pauig

5th – Nina Pauig

Science

1st – Joaquin Pauig

2nd – Gavin Slone

Social Studies

1st – Gavin Slone

3rd – Zach Clifton

Language Arts

1st – Chesney Jacobs

4th – Melanie McWilliams

5th – Kaylie Farmer

Arts & Humanities

1st – Chesney Jacobs

2nd – Sam Elliot

Composition

2nd – Brianica Childress

3rd – Haley Carr

4th – Lauren Partin

Corbin coaches are Chris Kinsel and Deidre Higgins. Future Problem Solving team members include Adam Anderson, Allison Lundy, Zach Clifton, and Teryl Ramsey.

Whitley County High School’s academic team was named runner-up at the tournament.

The Whitley County Quick Recall team placed second, and individual team members placed in the written assessment competition.

Whitley County’s academic team is coached by Jennifer Smith.

Lynn Camp received the Katherine Humes award for their sportsmanship at the tournament.
