A Corbin business has been awarded $500,000 in federal funding to combat opioid abuse.
U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) announced Monday that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will distribute $2 million to three Kentucky organizations through the Rural Communities Opioid Response Program (RCORP).
Through the distribution, Corbin’s Kentucky Rural Health Information Technology Network will receive $500,000, Morehead’s St. Claire HealthCare will receive $1,000,000, and Elizabethtown’s Stepworks Recovery Centers will receive $500,000, according to a release from McConnell’s office.
According to the RCORP website, Kentucky Rural Health Information Technology Network Inc.’s project is designed to implement a financially sustainable model that primarily addresses the barriers to care for those persons suffering from substance-use-disorder (SUD), specifically opioid-use-disorder (OUD).
Its model is focused on three fundamental areas of concentration; (1) education and community outreach, (2) medically-assisted-treatment and behavioral counseling; (3) recovery support services to include transitional housing, transportation and child-care, according to the website.

As a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, McConnell supports funding for the RCORP program during the appropriations process.
“The substance abuse crisis in Kentucky is large and growing, with opioid addiction playing a significant role in its expansion. The funding announced today will help several Kentucky addiction recovery centers fund programs that combat opioid addiction, helping individuals struggling with substance abuse return to healthy and productive lives. I’m proud to support the RCORP program in the Senate and am glad to see its resources go to impactful organizations in the Commonwealth,” McConnell said Monday.
