A Corbin man allegedly attempting to break into an outbuilding at a home on Hopkins Cemetery Road Wednesday night reportedly told deputies he had been using crystal meth mixed with Flakka.
According to Laurel County Sheriff John Root, Deputy Shawn Jackson arrested 38-year-old Tommy R. Barton II, who was found sitting in the roadway near Slate Ridge Road.
Jackson determined Barton was under the influence and when questioned about it, Barton replied that he had been doing Flakka earlier that night.
Flakka, also known as “Gravel,” is a form of bath salts that causes excited deliriums, paranoia and hallucinations according to DrugFree.org.
“The subject stated he was in the neighborhood to see some sunshine homes,” Root stated.
As Jackson continued to speak with him, Barton reportedly became very loud and began creating a disturbance in the area.
“The subject stated that he was not going to jail and had to be escorted to the police cruiser upon arrest,” Root stated.
Barton was charged with public intoxication – controlled substances, second-degree disorderly conduct and resisting arrest and lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center
