Corbin man arrested for attempted murder Friday morning

A Corbin man was arrested early Friday morning after allegedly attacking another man with a hammer.

According to an arrest citation, deputies with the Knox County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to a residence off KY1629 to investigate a call regarding a man lying on a porch pleading for help. Upon arrival at the home, the victim told deputies that he had been attacked with an instrument he believed to be a hammer.

The victim had a large cut on his face, according to the citation, and was later determined to have a collapsed lung and a broken rib.

The assailant, identified as David Caldwell, 50, allegedly told police that he and the victim had gotten into an altercation in the living room of the residence. No details regarding why the fight broke out were included in the citation.

Caldwell was arrested and placed in the Knox County Detention Center. He is charges with attempted murder, tampering with physical evidence and public intoxication – controlled substance.

As of Friday afternoon, Caldwell was still in jail.
