Corbin man charged in attempted shooting of moped driver in Knox Co.

A Corbin man was arrested Friday afternoon for allegedly shooting at an individual on a moped in Knox County.

Douglas Edmonson, 34, has been charged with first-degree wanton endangerment and receiving stolen property – firearm.

Deputies were called to investigate the incident on Ky. 11 in the Cannon community.

The caller advised that the vehicle in which the shooter was riding could be located at the A&B Market in Cannon.

Deputy Sgt. Carl Frith located the green 1995 Ford Explorer at the maker, observing four men and several firearms inside.

In addition to Edmonson, Frith arrested the driver and two other passengers.

The driver, James Dee Thomas, 33, of Franklin, Ohio, was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and no operator’s license.

Two other passengers in the vehicle, Anthony Skaggs, 32 of Gray and James King, 19, of Corbin, were arrested on drug-related charges after Frith reportedly found suspected methamphetamine and smoking pipes in their possession.

Skaggs and King each face charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

“Along with the suspected drugs, several loaded long guns and handguns were seized,” said Deputy William Stewart, the department’s public affairs officer.

Barbourville Police assisted in the arrests.
