A Corbin man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly strangling a woman.

Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies charged Lawrence E. Smith, 46, with first-degree strangulation and fourth-degree assault following an investigation into the incident off of Robert E. Cox Road.

Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, the department’s public affairs officer, stated that Deputy Travis Napier and Court Security Officer Walter Marker responded to a complaint of an alleged assault at approximately 6:20 p.m.

“Upon arrival at the scene deputies conducted an investigation and learned allegedly a male subject had shoved and choked a female subject there,” Acciardo stated.

Smith was taken into custody and lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
