Corbin man who was struck by SUV Thursday has died

Date:

A Corbin man died Sunday as a result of injuries he sustained when he was hit by an SUV Thursday.

12-14-vehicle-v-ped67-year-old Ralph Wilson died at the University of Kentucky Medical Center where he had been taken following the wreck Thursday afternoon.

Corbin Police were called to the intersection of First Street and Kentucky Ave. in response to a report of a wreck involving a vehicle and pedestrian.

Corbin Police Colonel David Maiden said the driver of the SUV, identified as Chris Webb, told him that as Webb approached the stop sign on West First Street at the intersection with Kentucky Ave., he could see the pedestrian standing on the corner.

As Webb checked traffic and began to cross Kentucky Ave., the man reportedly stepped off the sidewalk and Webb was unable to avoid striking him.

Corbin firefighters and Whitley EMS also responded to the scene to treat Wilson and transport him to Baptist Health Corbin.

Wilson was transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Center later that day.

Corbin Police Major Rob Jones, the department’s public affairs officer, said there is nothing to indicate Webb did anything illegal.

“It was just an accident,” Jones said.
