Corbin men nabbed for storage building break-ins

Date:

Dodd already facing jail time for previous thefts

A pair of alleged burglars were arrested Tuesday and are facing numerous charges, according to Cpt. Tim Helton of the Corbin Police Department.

Justin Dodd, age 20, of Rockholds and Justin Bell, 18 of Corbin, are each facing charges of 2nd and 3rd degree burglary, theft by unlawful taking over, and under, $300, as well as criminal mischief 3rd degree after police say they are responsible for thefts at a Gordon Hill residence and Triplett’s U-Store It on S. Main in Corbin.

Helton said the two were arrested after an investigation led to the issuance of warrants for each of them.
According to Helton, at around 3 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 23, a security guard noticed the two men inside a storage building at Triplett’s, located at 1709 S. Main. After notifying his boss, Helton said the security guard notified police approximately 45 minutes later.

Officers then arrived on the scene and after speaking with the guard, discovered items that had been left behind in a bag, including several cell phones. Through the items left at the scene, police were led to a residence that had been broken into earlier that morning.

“Through an investigation and cooperating with witnesses, we were able to obtain arrest warrants for the two Justins,” Helton said. “The investigation led us to the conclusion that they were responsible for the burglary on Gordon Hill as well as the break in at Triplett’s.”

Dodd is also scheduled for a final sentencing on Nov. 3 in front of Whitley District Judge Dan Ballou on charges stemming from a string of vehicle break-ins in the Oaklawn and Sanderlin Drive are in Corbin.

As for the stolen items, Helton said that some things had been returned to the rightful owners and anyone who was a victim and still has missing items should contact him or Corbin Police Officer Jason Moore at 528-1122.
