Corbin Police, Fire Chili Cookoff event to benefit Carnegie building restoration

Date:

On Thursday, Feb. 22, the Corbin Police and Fire Departments will compete with each other in a chili cookoff event to benefit ongoing restorations of the old Carnegie Library building on Roy Kidd Ave.

The cookoff will be held at the Depot on Main Restaurant in downtown from 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m.

Tickets will be $10 each, and will include a bowl of chili and a drink. A blind taste test will determine the winner.

Corbin Tourism Director Maggy Monhollen explained that proceeds from next week’s chili cookoff event will be put towards a match for a special $10,000 grant that has been awarded by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

This money will allow for the replacement of the front lower windows in the Carnegie building. Currently, the top windows are in the process of being replaced (see photo).

Another fundraiser for this effort will likely take place sometime this spring.
