Corbin Police investigating Wednesday shooting on Gordon Hill

Date:

Corbin Police are investigating a shooting that occurred at a residence on Gordon Hill Tuesday afternoon.

Corbin Police Major Rob Jones, the department’s public affairs officer, said Baptist Health Corbin officials contacted police at 4:27 p.m. to report that 23-year-old Stephanie Johnson of Corbin has been brought into the emergency room with a single gunshot wound.

“She was shot in the pelvis, just above the waistline,” Jones said adding that Johnson was flown on to the University of Kentucky Medical Center where she is recovering.

Jones said police spoke with Michael S. McCormick, who had transported Johnson to the hospital.

Jones said McCormick initially reported that Johnson has been shot while sitting in a car at Hillside Apartments on Gordon Street near the intersection with Poplar Ave.
Upon further investigation, police determined that the shooting occurred at 915 Gordon Hill.

However, no one has been arrested and no weapon has been recovered.

“We are waiting to speak with her,” Jones said.

Jones said McCormick and Johnson had reportedly just been married in Las Vegas.

Jones added there is no history of domestic violence.
