Corbin Primary hosts Storybook Christmas

Date:

Several hundred students at Corbin Primary School got to experience storybooks coming to life as 114 high school students told acted out stories or painted faces at Storybook Christmas.

Jill Lewis, the Storybook Christmas coordinator for 18 years said the high school students who participate are part of organizations such as the National Honors Society, National Art Honors Society, FCCLA, and student council.

Students participate for volunteer hours and do most of the work outside of school.

Lewis said this was the first year the event has taken place at the primary school, but the magic of Christmas was still abundant.

“Everyone is having a great time,” said Lewis. “The big kids love it as much as the little kids. It is just a day of magical Christmas.”

Everyone who attended the program donated one new children’s book. Half of the books will be donated to the Angel Tree program and the other half will go to the Corbin Rotary Club’s Empty Stocking fund.

More than 30 classes of students attended the event throughout the day on Tuesday.

“Every year I call it my Christmas miracle,” said Lewis. “I walked in here yesterday at 2:30 and there was nothing, and then by the time we left last night at 7, it was already this magical, Christmas, fairytale place.”

Lewis said watching the faces of the high school students and the primary students is why she has participated with the event for so many years.
