Just before 8:30 p.m. Thursday evening parents and guardians of children in the Corbin Independent School system unexpectedly received text messages, e-mails and an all-call informing them of a supposed threat that had been made concerning Corbin Primary School earlier in the day.
The message said, “There was a perceived threat made today at Corbin Primary. School administration and law enforcement dealt with the situation. There is no imminent danger.”
Friday morning, Superintendent Dave Cox shed a little more light on the situation, saying, “A kid said some things that they shouldn’t have said on the bus. It happened after school, on the way home, but once we were notified we got our school resource officers and the Corbin City Police involved, and once they were satisfied that there was no credible threat, that is when we sent out the ‘all clear’ message.”
Cox said that the investigation is ongoing, so he couldn’t say any more about the student who supposedly made the threats, or the nature of what was said, but he did say the situation will be “dealt with today.”
“We treat every threat with the utmost respect, and we always want to keep our parents informed,” Cox added.
Cox assured that no credible threat is present at this time, and there is no imminent danger at Corbin Primary, or any other school in the district.
