Corbin Tourism asking for local sports related memorabilia for ‘Hometown Teams’ exhibit

Date:

The Corbin Tourism and Convention Commission, in conjunction with the KY Humanities Council, will be hosting a Smithsonian traveling exhibit November 18-December 30, 2017 at the Corbin Center located at 222 Corbin Center Drive. The exhibit, titled “Hometown Teams” tells the story about sports and the role that sports have played in shaping small towns and neighborhoods in America.

The Corbin Tourism office is seeking sports related memorabilia and items for loan for the local exhibit.

We are looking for a variety of items to help build a local exhibit, telling the story of sports and athletics in Corbin. Some items that we are looking for include:

Letter jackets, jerseys, uniforms, sports equipment (footballs, pom pom, gloves, bats, helmets, etc) trophies, Redhound memorabilia, any items used by fans and individual pictures of athletes.

Items can be from any time period, the older the better as we would like to show the history of Corbin. All items will be catalogued and will be under 24 hour surveillance while on display at the Center.

For more information about the exhibit itself, visit https://museumonmainstreet.org/content/hometown-teams and https://www.kyhumanities.org/smithsonianexhibits.html

To loan your items, call Corbin Tourism at 528-8860, or bring them to the Tourism office anytime Monday through Friday from 8am-5pm.
