Corbin woman charged with leaving four young children home alone

A Corbin woman is facing four counts of wanton endangerment for allegedly leaving her four young children home alone.

Knox County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 30-year-old Melissa K. Preston Saturday morning.

According to Deputy William Stewart, the department’s public affairs officer, deputies were called to the home on Wilder Street off of East Barbourville Street, in response to a complaint that the children, ages 11-months, two, four and ten, had been left alone.

Deputy Sam Mullins responded and found the children were home, but reported that Preston returned home.

Preston was charged with four counts of second-degree wanton endangerment and one count of public intoxication – controlled substance and lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.

Social services was called to the residence and the children were released into the custody of a family member.
