Corbin woman enters pleas in theft cases

Date:

A Corbin woman accused of stealing thousands of dollars from the Corbin Preschool Center has pleaded guilty to charges in Knox and Whitley Counties and is scheduled to appear in court next week to answer to charges she faces in Laurel County.

To date, Donna Logan, 35 of Corbin, has been ordered to pay over $42,000 in restitution ($35,000 in Knox and over $7,000 in Whitley) for the crimes and could serve up to 10 years in jail on the charges, pending the outcome in the Laurel County case.

Last week in Knox Circuit Court, Logan reached a plea agreement and entered a guilty plea on charges one (possession of a forged instrument ) and eleven (theft by deception over $300) of the indictment under the condition that the remaining charges would be dropped.

Wednesday, in Whitley Circuit Court, Logan pleaded guilty to possession of a forged instrument charges and theft by deception over $300.

According to court documents, Logan will have to pay $35,000 back to the Corbin Preschool Program and a fine of $1,000 in the Knox County plea agreement. Logan is expected to receive a sentence of five years on each count and they will run concurrent with whatever sentence she faces in Whitley County, but consecutive to any sentence imposed in Laurel County.

Logan allegedly stole the money from an account, entitled Parents for Play, in which parents of children that attended the Corbin Preschool Center would donate money for projects or events at the school. Initially, the account was used for the purchase and installation of playground equipment at the school. The playground was completed in the fall of 2005, but money remained in the account and it was used to purchase school supplies and other items.
