Decade of Distinction: Cody Philpot’s 10 year success at Corbin

Date:

Since Cody Philpot first took the reins of the Corbin Redhounds varsity baseball program back in 2015, the team has enjoyed an unprecedented level of success. When taking a look at the Hounds’ accomplishments over the course of the past decade, the list of accolades breaks down as follows:

• 244-124 combined win-loss record

• Seven 50th District championship titles (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2023, 2024)

• Five 13th Region championship titles (2018, 2019, 2022, 2024, 2025) – Note: Seniors Cam Allen, Eli Campbell, Garner Chandler, Cade Cooney, Matthew Creekmore, Zac Hash, Cole Hicks, Ben Phillips and Caleb Vannorstran were poised to lead the Hounds to a three-peat regional championship title in 2020, but the season was cancelled due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Corbin has not missed a 13th Region tournament with Philpot at the helm. Prior to his stint as head coach, you have to go all the way back to 2005 to find the last time that the Hounds were able to come out on top of the region.

The only thing that Corbin hasn’t managed to do under Philpot is secure a win in the KHSAA State Championship Tournament. In 2018, the team fell to the Hazard Bulldogs, 5-1, in Lexington. A year later, they lost to Hazard again, 2-1, in a semi-state round game played a Morehead State University.

In 2022, the Hounds once again ended up on the losing end of a 2-1 final decision, this time falling to Central Hardin. Last year, Philpot and company took Owensboro Catholic to extra innings before losing yet another heartbreaker, 5-4.

Can Corbin finally break the streak and pick up that elusive state tournament win when they face off against Pleasure Ridge Park in round one of the 2025 KHSAA State Championship Tournament this Friday night at Kentucky Proud Park in Lexington? We will soon find out.
