Don’t die on Tuesday

Date:

This past Tuesday was an educational one for me to say the least. That’s the day I learned about the News Journal’s “Don’t die on Tuesday” rule. It sounds funny, and that’s exactly what I was thinking when Trent Knuckles told me about it. It all started when I began to feel a little queasy Monday evening. I didn’t have much of an appetite, so that alone told me something was wrong. I ate dinner and after laying down for a brief moment or two, went to help a buddy install a kitchen faucet. Between that time I had spoke to Trent on the phone and let him know how bad I was feeling, to which he responded with the “Don’t die on Tuesday” rule. Well, halfway through that faucet changing job, I knew what was coming as my stomach pains worsened. I finished up and went home where I began to really feel the squeeze (no pun intended). As the night wore on, things got worse so I took a couple spoons of liquid phenegran and tried to lay down. That didn’t work, at all. I would say through the night, I may have gotten 30-45 minutes of rest. Well, along came Tuesday and before I knew it, it was time to go to work. Instead of arriving at my usual 7 a.m. on Tuesday, I was unable to drag myself in until 9 a.m. I was lucky I made it then, considering there were no bathroom stops between home and the office. Well, needless to say, I toughed my way through Tueasday, just minding my own business, making my many journeys to and from the bathroom. I was not myself by a longshot and one of my coworkers even told me he wished I was sick more often because I had been quiet all day. In the end, I learned what the “Don’t die on Tuesday” rule was and come to think of it, I may have even read about it in the employee handbook when I was hired.
