w-gene-scott-m-dDr. Gene Whitfield Scott, 88, of Shawnee Drive, Williamsburg, departed this life on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at his home.

He was born on December 14, 1928 in Tennessee to the late Joseph W. Scott and Irma Rebecca (Smith) Scott.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph M. Scott, M.D.

Prior to attending medical school; Gene worked at Howenburg Cotton Company and was a salesman for I.B.M. He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee Medical School, and provided health care for Williamsburg and Whitley County residents for over 30 years. He was very active in his church, First United Methodist Church acting as head of the Administrative Board.

He is survived by his loving wife, Beverly Lynn  Scott of Williamsburg; two daughters, Kathryn Jean Jones and husband Dwight of Williamsburg and Jennifer Leigh Grow and husband Choya of Lexington; six grandchildren, Eddie Jones,  Stephanie Lovitt and husband Darrell, Lindsey Marlow and husband Direck, Amy Howell and husband Jesse, Matthew Jones and wife Brittany and Shelby Grow; great-grandchildren, Staylie Marlow, Heidi Wiles, Noah Jones, Ahna Marlow, Eli Lovitt, Maverick Jones, Emmett Howell  Griffin Howell and Lincoln Lovitt; a brother, Edwin L. Scott, M.D. of Memphis, TN; and host of other family and friends to mourn his passing.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until the funeral hour at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 4, at Croley Funeral Home with Rev. Terry Faris and Rev. Chris Basil officiating.

He will be laid to rest following a private family graveside service at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 5, at Croley Addition of Highland Park Cemetery.

Marlow will serve as pallbearers.
