Driver charged with assault after accused shoplifter injured while attempting to flee Belk

An accused shoplifter’s attempt to flee from Belk loss prevention Friday afternoon ended with her being airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center and the getaway vehicle driver charged with second-degree assault.

Corbin police and firefighters were called to the store at the Trademart Shopping Center about 2 p.m. in response to a 911 call that a woman had been struck by a vehicle.
