Fiscal court votes to repair mudslides

Date:

Two large mudslides that have plagued the Tackett Creek area in recent months should be repaired over the next two weeks.
During a special called meeting Friday afternoon, the Whitley County Fiscal Court awarded a $28,758 bid to Everett Angel to fix the Tackett Creek slide and a $33,260 bid to I.K. Sears Excavating to repair a slide on Dal Road.

Whitley County Assistant Projects Director Mike Siler said both repairs stem from June 4 slides.

Siler said Monday afternoon that the contracts were slated to be signed Tuesday and called for completion of the work in 10 days barring weather delays. He said the river would have to go down first before repair work could begin.

90 percent of the costs will be paid for through a U.S. Dept. of Agriculture Natural Resource Soil Conservation Service grant. The county will be responsible for 10 percent of the costs.
