The Williamsburg Yellow Jackets and the Whitley County Colonels were both in action in London Friday night.
The Jackets met up with Bourbon County in game one of a two-game bowl at South Laurel High School. This was Williamsburg’s season opener, and they were successful, winning, 38-20. Next week, they will host the Clay County Tigers in the Annual Alumni Bowl. This particular Alumni Bowl will be extra special, because it will be the first game held at the newly remodeled stadium at WHS.
While the Jackets were getting their first win of the season Friday, the Whitley County Colonels were battling it out across town at North Laurel High School. The game was as competitive as it gets, but in the end the Jaguars were able to pull out a narrow, 16-14, victory over the visiting Colonels. Whitley, now 1-1 on the season, will also be back at home next week when they host the Harlan County Black Bears
The Corbin Redhounds went on the road to Garrard County in week 2 where they faced North Hardin in game two of a two-game bowl. It ended up being a late night for the Hounds thanks to weather delays, but they managed to come home winners after securing another convincing victory, 52-25, to remain unbeaten on the year at 2-0. Next week, the Lexington Catholic Knights will come to town for a high-profile matchup at Campbell Field.
Finally, the Lynn Camp Wildcats were also able to get out to a 2-0 start to the 2024 season on Friday, besting the visiting Berea Pirates, 48-31. The Cats will hope to keep things rolling next week when they go on the road to play Knott County Central.
