Week 7 was a big one for two coverage area football teams, as the Corbin Redhounds hosted Johnson Central in yet another high-profile encounter at Campbell Field and the Williamsburg Yellow Jackets returned to action for the first time since Sept. 12.
The Hounds were coming off of a bye week, which means they had some extra time to prepare for the undefeated Golden Eagles of Johnson Central. Things were looking grim at the half, as the visitors led by two scores, 22-7, but Corbin came out swinging in the third quarter, eventually cutting the lead down to one point, 22-21.
The Hounds took a 28-22 lead in the fourth quarter, but Johnson responded and went back on top, 29-28. That was followed by another Corbin score that made it 34-29 in favor of the home team, but the Eagles refused to back down, finding the end zone again and going on to win by the final score of 37-34.
With the loss, Corbin now stands at an even 3-3 on the year. They will open up district play next week when they go on the road to face Harlan County (4-2).
In other action Friday, the Williamsburg Yellow Jackets finally returned to the playing field when they hosted their district rivals from Pineville. The Jackets got off to a bit of a rough start, but they managed to get things lined out and cruised in the second half to a 48-8 victory.
The win improved Williamsburg to 3-2 on the year. They will host Lynn Camp (4-2) next week in another district matchup.
Both the Lynn Camp Wildcats and the Whitley County Colonels were on bye in week 7. The Cats will return to action in week 8 in the above mentioned game at Williamsburg, and the Colonels will go on the road to Perry County Central (2-4).
