Retired Corbin Police Chief David Campbell, who died last week at age 69, was celebrated and honored during his funeral Friday night.
Rev. Bobby Joe Eaton, Pastor at Poplar Grove Baptist Church in Corbin, described Campbell as someone who enjoyed life to the fullest, whether it was in his job in law enforcement, or spending his free time camping.
“He is going to be missed,” Eaton said. “He was a tremendous story teller who brought laughter to us.”
“He was just a people person,” Eaton added.
Eaton said in times like this, it is important to remember the laughs and other special moments shared with Campbell.
“Let those memories become even more special as time goes on,” Eaton said.
Eaton asked those in attendance to also remember Campbell’s family as they mourn his loss.
Campbell is survived by his wife, Brenda, who lives in Corbin.
“It means so much to know that people are praying for them,” Eaton said.
Campbell served 37 years in law enforcement, including seven as Corbin Police Chief between 2009 and 2016.
“He cared about every one of the officers at the department,” said Corbin Police Chief Rusty Hedrick, who served as a detective during Campbell’s tenure as chief.
“He did great things for the citizens of this town. He did an excellent job,” Corbin Mayor Willard McBurney added.
