HALO airsoft course opens across from KY Splash

With the popularity of war themed video games and the reality of military action taking a strong hold over the youth of today, many wish to live out their battle fantasies. Now, thanks to the help of HALO, local residents can do so in a fun and safe environment.

An airsoft course started its opening weekend Friday, June 3, in Williamsburg on HWY 92 just off Exit 11 across from KY Splash Water Park. HALO, also known as hardcore airsoft local operations, is owned and operated by retired U.S. Navy Seal Ross Munro.

“Our weekend went well, I think the weather kept a couple people away maybe, but all that came had a fantastic time,” said Munro.

Airsoft operation is a rising sport that ultimately comes down to providing players with a tactical military simulation. The realistic experience entails replicas of real world equipment but with the safety of plastic 6mm round BBs.

Leaders of the Carson-Newman football team were in attendance over the weekend, said Munro, as well as students from two local high school JROTCs.

Munro says he wants HALO to be a way of getting kids active and off the couch. He also stated that, through teamwork and communication, HALO provides real human interaction.

Of course, everyone is encouraged to visit HALO.

“It’s not just for men,” said Munro. “Ladies can come out, run around and shoot your husbands if you want. That might be fun for ya. You can shoot them all day long at airsoft.”

HALO, which is open Friday through Sunday, offers many prices and programs for their customers, including group and birthday packages. All packages include a field pass, M4 airsoft gun, mask, and helmet.

Communications are also recommended in order to achieve the full tactical effect.

Eye protection must always be worn in and around the arena. HALO also requires that the entire face be covered. A waiver must also be signed by participants before play can begin.

Players are welcome to provide their own gun. However, it must shoot at or below the allowable level of 350 feet per second.
