Great pitching, hitting and defense. That was the right combination for success and winning the 2005 Kentucky Big League State Tournament for the fourth straight time according to Bullets coach Jim Sadler.
The Bullets beat Winchester in a best of three series, 8-0- and 14-4 to earn the right to go to the Big League Central Regional in Wyoming, Michigan this weekend. According to Sadler the team was scheduled to leave this morning at 5 a.m. The Bullets were regional runner-up last year.
In the two wins, Bullets had home runs by Trent Jones (North Laurel), Clint Cashen (Corbin) and Travis Prewitt (Corbin).
Corbin’s Brandon Hedrick led the winners in the two games, going 5 of 7. Ryan Sams was three of six and Rockcastle’s Ben Graves was three of seven.
“Our defense was excellent,” said Sadler. He pointed to the fact that Kyle Parsley (North Laurel), Josh Hamlin, Brandon Hedrick (Corbin), Patrick Ross (McCreary Central), Prewitt, Barry Cooper (Wayne County) and Robert Corder (Wayne County played exceptionally well.
He also gave his four starting pitchers, John Reynolds (Williamsburg), Todd Strunk (McCreary Central), Ben Graves (Rockcastle) and Dustin Gray (Corbin) praise for their play in the two games.
“We’re excited about making another trip to the Big League Regional,” added Sadler.
