High winds, heavy rains cause power outages and damage across area

Date:

High winds associated with a storm system that blew through Whitley County Tuesday afternoon kept police and emergency officials busy for much of the evening. Above, this tree caught fire after falling across power lines and landing atop Creekside Apartments in Corbin. Officials were worried the building would catch fire. Workers for the City Utilities Commission finally cut power to the lines. Below, a tree blocks the roadway at the top of Seventh Street hill. Thousands of local residents were without power for a time following the brief but powerful storm.
