Irene Cox Lawson, 81, of Mossy Gap Community, passed away Saturday, January 12, 2019, at her home.

Irene entered into this life on February 27, 1937, in Whitley County, the daughter of the late Burline and Mary Ann Peace Cox.

She was a homemaker, was of the Baptist faith, and a member of Beech Bottom Missionary Baptist Church.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, E.C. Lawson; a sister, Mildred Ann Cox; a daughter, Lily Ann Lawson; and a great-grandson, John Carson Lay.

Irene is survived by her daughter, Charloette Lay and husband (Robbie) of the Mossy Gap Community; five grandchildren, Brandon Lay, Hope Lay-Saunders and husband (Albert) Cierra Lay, Joshua Lay and Matthew Lay; one great-grand child, Corbin Saunders; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at the Beech Bottom Missionary Baptist Church on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, January 16, at 2 p.m. at the Beech Bottom Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Waylon Hunter, Rev. Ronnie Rose, Rev. Larry Calhoun, Rev. Lenard Siler, and Rev. George Peace officiating.

Burial will follow in the Peace Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be her nephews.
