w-james-e-lay-pictureJames E. Lay, age 97, of Goshen, OH, formerly of Jellico, TN, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2016, at the Loveland Health Care Center.

He was born on May 25, 1919, to the late Silas L. and Melda (Davis) Lay in Campbell County, TN.

He  was the grandson of the late James and Margaret (King) Lay and the late Sherman and Mary (McCulley) Davis.

He attended the Williams Corner Church of God.

In addition to his parents and grandparents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl (Anderson) Lay, four children, Roger Lay, Billy Lay, Fred Lay and Carolyn (Lay) Tso; three grandchildren, Leva, Genevieve, and Eunice; one brother, Raymond S. Lay; two sisters,  Nellie (Lay) Smith and Lorene (Lay) Goosman.

He is survived by four children, Barbara (Lay) Allen, James Lay, Bobby Lay and wife, Geneva, and Darrell Lay and wife, Debbie; one daughter-in-law, Terry Lay; seventeen grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grand-children; three brothers, Wesley Lay, Paul Lay and Herman Lay; two sisters, Glenna (Lay) Huddleston and husband, Bob, and Pernia (Lay) Anderson; numerous nephews and nieces; sister-in-law, Wanda Louise (Cox) Lay; and a host of friends and other family members to mourn his passing.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Cox & Son Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, November 26, with the graveside funeral service to follow at 11:30 a.m. at the Douglas Cemetery in the Wooldridge community of Jellico with the Rev. Rick McKinney officiating.

Cox & Son Funeral Home of Jellico is in charge of arrangements.
