John William Whittaker

John William Whittaker, age 77, of Keavy, passed away on Friday, January 21, 2022, at his home.
Born in Laurel County, Ky, he was the son of the late Raymond and Hazel Howard Whittaker. He spent many years working as a carman for L&N Railroad. John was active in his community, he played the harmonica with The Level Green Boys, and attended Level Green Baptist Church in Keavy. He was also an avid ham radio operator and known by many as his call sign KG4LFY.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca, his first wife and mother of his children, Mae, and his second wife, Lorrine.
He is survived by his wife Rinda Williams; daughter, Laverne Burns (Ken); son, Kevin Whittaker (Jessica); nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five stepchildren; sister, Jackie Jones; and a brother, Sam Whittaker (Lou).
Visitation will be from 6-8 pm on Monday, January 24, at Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home, and from 11-1 pm on Tuesday, January 25th at Level Green Baptist Church. His funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Tuesday at the church with Rev. Raymond Hampton and Rev. Ken Burns officiating.
Burial will follow in the Whittaker Cemetery in London, Ky.
