A Keavy couple was arrested Tuesday night on drug trafficking charges after Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies found methamphetamine, Suboxone, marijuana, scales and cash inside their vehicle.
Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, the department’s public affairs officer, said deputies arrested Thelma Karr, 45, and William Karr, 43 in the parking lot of a business of Adams Road in north Corbin.
Acciardo said Deputy Daniel Grigsby began a drug investigation about 9:50 p.m. after seeing the Karr’s vehicle sitting in the parking lot for an extended period.
During the course of the investigation, Acciardo said Grigsby discovered unspecified drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle.
“It was in plain view,” Acciardo said of the paraphernalia.
Girgsby deployed his K-9 “Edge,” who alerted to the presence of drugs inside the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle and the individuals turned up the drugs, scales and cash.
Thelma and William Karr were each charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance – methamphetamine, second-degree possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia and lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Facility.
Sheriff John Root stated that these arrests are part of his department’s on-going efforts in the War on Drugs in Laurel County.
