Knox County Judge-Executive Mike Mitchell recently presented two $5,000 checks to support local senior centers in the face of recent state funding reductions.
The checks were presented to Shawn Bingham with the Knox County Senior Center and Amber Case with the Corbin Senior Center.
This funding, which was provided through the Knox County Fiscal Court, represents an increase in local support for senior services compared to prior years. Mitchell emphasized that this funding is intended to help offset recent shortfalls and ensure essential programs and services remain available to the senior population of Knox County.
“The services provided by our senior centers are absolutely vital,” said Mitchell. “They offer more than just meals and social actives. They offer connection, and care for a population that has given so much to our communities.”
Both centers have experienced cuts in state-level support this year, making local investments even more critical. The Knox County Fiscal Court’s increase in senior center funding reflects a broader effort to prioritize essential services and support quality of life for all Knox County residents.
Community members, who wish to contribute or learn more about supporting these centers, are encouraged to reach out to the Knox County Senior Citizens Center at (606) 546-3152 and the Corbin Senior Center at (606) 528-0100.
