Laurel County bridge closed to traffic

Date:

A wooden bridge carrying traffic over the CSX tracks in southern Laurel County is closed until further notice.

The bridge on North Ky. 1223 was closed Friday after it was damaged when a tractor-trailer truck attempted to cross about noon.

Officials said the driver was hauling a load of wood to nearby Tri-County Wood.

Two signs are posted along the roadway further south advising truck drivers that the bridge has insufficient weight limit to accommodate tractor trailers.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is conducting a safety investigation of the bridge. In addition, repairs must be made to the bridge railing.

Ky. 1223 beyond the bridge may be reached via Robinson Creek Road.
