Laurel County man accused of beating wife with baseball bat

Date:

A Laurel County man was arrested Thursday night for allegedly beating his wife with a baseball bat.

Forty-one-year-old Gregory Johnson of London, who is facing one count of second-degree assault, is being held without bond in the Laurel County Correctional Facility.

According to Sheriff John Root, deputies Rick Cloyd and Milton Storm were called to a residence on Echo Valley Road off of U.S. 25 in Lily, about 8 p.m. in response to a domestic violence complaint, alleging that a female had been severely beaten.

“When deputies arrived at the scene and conducted an investigation they learned that a female subject there had allegedly been beaten with a baseball bat,” Root stated.

Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, the department’s public affairs officer, declined to release the victim’s name, noting it is department policy not to do so.

Root added that the victim was transported by Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County to St. Joseph London Hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.

Acciardo said it is unknown was the duo was arguing about.

“This is the only time we have been out there,” Acciardo said when asked if there was a history of domestic problems at the residence.

Johnson is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Laurel District Court.

Under Kentucky Law, second-degree assault is a Class C felony, carrying a potential prison sentence of five to ten years.
