Lightning strike forces early closure of Whitley Courthouse Friday

Date:

A lightening strike during yesterday evening’s storms has resulted in minor damage to the electrical system in the Whitley County Courthouse.

This morning, parts of the building did not have electricity.  Kentucky Utilities were called to repair a fuse at the transformer. All power has been restored to the building, but the air conditioning units will need further repair work.

“With a heat advisory in effect for Whitley County, I feel it is best to close the courthouse for the rest of the day and re-evaluate the situation on Monday,” said Whitley County Judge/Executive Pat White, Jr. “We will have maintenance staff and a heating and air contractor working on the issue in the mean time.”

The Whitley County Courthouse will close at 2 p.m. Friday, July 6th.
