Man found deceased behind church near state line Tuesday afternoon

Date:

No foul play is suspected at this time in the death of a man found Tuesday afternoon behind a small church of US25W near the Kentucky-Tennessee state line, according to Whitley County Coroner Andy Croley.

Croley said that a local resident was out walking their dog when they discovered the deceased man about 2 p.m. Croley officially pronounced the victim dead at 2:47 p.m.

The victim is believed to be an elderly male in his mid-60s and may have possibly been homeless.

“He appeared to be staying there,” Croley said.

Croley has not officially confirmed the man’s identity yet.

No tentative cause of death has been determined. The body will be sent to the Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort, which will determine the official cause of death.

The man is not believed to have suffered any traumatic injuries.

Kentucky State Police and the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department are investigating.
