Man hurt in logging accident Tues. afternoon

Date:

A 50-year-old man had to be flown out by medical helicopter to Lexington following a logging accident Tuesday afternoon in far eastern Whitley County.

Whitley County Emergency Management Director Danny Moses said that the accident happened about 1 p.m. at the head of Bennett’s Branch, which is near Highway 904.

Moses said that the victim was apparently hurt during some type of logging accident, and suffered serious injuries.

Moses and various rescue and fire department personnel set up an emergency-landing zone on the football field at Whitley East Elementary School where Whitley County EMS had transported the victim.

An Air Evac Lifeteam helicopter landed about 2:30 p.m., and flew the victim to the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.

The man was apparently struck in the head by a piece of wood about the diameter of a softball, and complained of chest and shoulder pain, according to radio traffic between the ambulance and helicopter.
