Man stopped in Corbin driving car taken from girlfriend

Date:

A London man was arrested Monday morning in north Corbin after Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies investigating a stolen vehicle stopped him while allegedly driving under the influence.

Fifty-three-year-old Randy Cook was pulled over and arrested on South Stewart Road near the Corbin Walmart about 3:30 a.m.

According to Sheriff John Root, Laurel County dispatch received a complaint from a woman stating she had received a text from Cook’s girlfriend stating he was going to come to her house and steal her car and take her medication.

The woman described the vehicle as a white Chevrolet Lumina.

Deputy Tommy Houston located the suspect vehicle on West Cumberland Gap Parkway and conducted a traffic stop nearby.

“Deputy Houston noted that he detected a strong odor of alcoholic beverages emitting from this subjected during the traffic stop,” Root stated in a press release.

Upon further investigation, Houston determined Cook was under the influence and placed him under arrest on charges of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, no operator’s license, failure to wear seatbelt, reckless driving, failure to signal, and other traffic violations.

Cook is being held without bond in the Laurel County Detention Center.
