Williamsburg has a new community choir and they need your help.
The newly-formed choir is an endeavor put together by Jonathan Wyatt, who serves as both the main street manager for the City of Williamsburg and music teacher/choir director at Williamsburg Independent School. The reason for starting the choir, according to Wyatt, is because he felt compelled to share something with the community that he has loved for much of his life.
“I wanted to form this ensemble as a way to bring singing back into our community. I grew up singing and I want to others to join as well,” said Wyatt. “The intent and mission as the community chorus is to invoke a feeling of unity in our community through song. It is my joy to be able to direct such a fine group of singers that enjoy being together and creating something great.”
The choir is open to all talent levels as well as age groups, though Wyatt said he preferred members be 18 or older. Currently, the choir is scheduled to meet for rehearsals each Monday through October and then Tuesdays beginning in November. Rehearsals are being held in the sanctuary of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church off of Savoy-Clear Creak Road near Firestone.
A concert will be held Dec. 17 at 7 p.m. to showcase the hard work put in by everyone involved and to celebrate the Christmas season with a number of seasonal favorite songs. Among the numbers expected to be performed are “Silent Night” and “I’ll Be Home for Christmas.” A venue still has not been selected for the concert and will be announced at a later date.
