Arson is suspected in a fire that severely damaged a Ky. 92E home Wednesday morning.
Patterson Creek Volunteer Fire Department Chief Tim Vanover said that the fire was reported about 7:40 a.m. and that he was the first emergency responder on the scene at the home, which is located near the first horseshoe curve.
"We had a lot of fire in the back of the house on the back porch," which is where the fire appeared to have started, Vanover said.
"It climbed up the wall and got into the loft and attic on us. The kitchen sustained a lot of fire damage because it was right there near where the fire started."
He said that although the house is still standing, it was a total loss because of smoke and water damage that nearly the whole house sustained.
Patterson Creek firefighters were on the scene for nearly an hour before calling for mutual aid from the Williamsburg Fire Department.
About 20 firefighters used 2,750 gallons of water and 500 gallons of fire retardant foam to extinguish the blaze in the wood covered brick home.
No one was at home when the fire started and nobody was injured fighting the blaze.
The door was open when firefighters arrived, Vanover noted.
Local arson investigators and the Kentucky Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating the blaze. Arson is suspected, but there are no suspects at this time, Vanover said.
Fire trucks were on the scene until 11 a.m. Wednesday.
The case is still under investigation.
