One killed in wreck on I-75

A Booneville truck driver was pronounced dead at the scene Saturday morning when his tractor-trailer tanker truck ran off the round on southbound Interstate 75 and struck a tree.

Forty-year-old Stnaley Young was pronounced dead at the scene of the single-vehicle wreck about 11:40 a.m.

Laurel County Sheriff John Root stated that the truck was travelling south near the 36-mile marker when it ran off the road and traveled up an embankment just north of the weigh station before striking the tree.

The tanker trailer marked as a Shell Oil tanker, was empty at the time.

Southbound traffic was reduced to one lane between mile markers 36 and 34 for several hours as emergency personnel worked to clear the scene.

Assisting at the scene of the crash was London City Police Department, Laurel County Fire Department, London Laurel rescue squad, Abby Hale – Laurel County emergency management  director, Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County, and Ecotech.
