Superintendent Dave Cox was honored and celebrated for his retirement after 33 years and one month of service to Corbin Independent Schools at a special ceremony on Tuesday, July 15 in Edwards Gymnasium at Corbin Elementary School.
Cox’s career has touched nearly every corner of the district, from teacher to coach, to principal and administrator, to finally superintendent. Cox was recognized for his dedication and commitment to the Redhound community.
The gym was filled with decorations, photos of Cox, food, gifts, and members of the school community. Most attendees proudly wore red, showing their gratitude and heartfelt appreciation.
When asked about how he felt about the outpouring support, Cox said, “It’s incredible.” He praised his team, saying, “Everything in this district is a group accomplishment. This is the best, most teamwork-oriented place.”
The celebration served as a final chapter in a long and impactful career, and a reminder of how deeply rooted Cox is in the Corbin community.
When asked about the incoming superintendent Travis Wilder, he said, “he’s a really smart guy. The advice I have for him is to use all the people around you.”
Cox reminds all the core values of education by saying, “Education is about the kids.”
Though he is stepping away from his role, the legacy he leaves behind will be felt for years to come.
